What is Immune System?
The world around us is full of pathogens, from bacteria to viruses to fungi. We are actually encounter with all these pathogens that can cause disease every day. But we are still in good health in spite of all these pathogens. This is thanks to our Immune System!
Immune system is a series of defence mechanisms in our body that work 24/7 to keep us healthy. The immune system is made up of cells in the skin, blood, bone marrow, tissues, and organs that work together to protect our body against potentially harmful pathogens (such as bacteria and viruses), and limit damage from non-infectious agents (such as cancer). The immune system includes specialized cells, proteins such as enzymes, and antibodies. It also includes parts of the body that we might not have thought of as part of our immune system!
The human immune system is essential for our survival in a world full of potentially dangerous microbes, and serious impairment of even one arm of this system can predispose to severe, even life-threatening, infections.
